2007 Awards

We’ve done quite well again this year in the award lottery.

Our sauvignon blanc has been in the spotlight again this year, with our standard wine causing the stir. Rated by wine magazine one of the joint SPAR TOP 10 and also as one of the TOP 10 (order still to be decided at time of writing) in the Bartho Eksteen International Sauvignon Blanc Celebration. This plus a few silvers and golds in other competitions.

Our Pinotage 2005 was given a double gold at Michelangelo, the 2006 a gold, it also won “Best Durbanville Red” at the Terroir competition. Here our Semillon was recognised as the best Semillon in South Africa also given  a double gold at Michelangelo competition.

Our position as one of the most (if not the most) awarded “cellar of our size” in South Africa remains unchallenged. In Veritas alone, our entire range was awarded with 11 different medals. The stringent Nederburg Auction panel endorsed 3 of our wines this year (’05 Coronata and both ‘04 and ‘07 Club Select sauvignon blancs). We are pretty much 4 stars across the board in Platters (4 1/2 for the reserve sauvignon blanc) and there or there about in most other tastings of which we are aware. Although the price of a lottery ticket for these competition tastings is becoming more and more hefty (we spend around R20000 a year before cost of wine) we still believe their true value to us is to measure our consistency against the benchmark. It also shows us that on the “value for money scale” we believe we are still delivering right at the very top of the list in our quality sector.
