For contemporary, rustic·- ·simple, real and honest- food

Named Cassia after the bold and intriguing spice also known as Asian cinnamon,

Here simplicity reigns supreme, and so do seasonal ingredients. The pared-down approach says 'let's eat, not fuss', as the contemporary take on rustic fare inspires an ever-changing menu.

Degustazione, a real Farmers Market

Like many other food lovers, we trawled Cape Town’s markets searching for something different and exciting to eat until inevitably we decided to start our own market. After numerous discussions with our co-conspirator “La Masseria” and lots of phone calls and tastings with various producers, we held our first Nitida Food Market on the 23rd June 2007.

Hoping for a few hundred people we were all overwhelmed when over 1000 people tried to turn into the “under construction” Nitida gates that first day. The numbers were one thing, but what really held everyone spellbound, was the sense of community under the tent. Now a year later, we find ourselves in the fortunate position of growing patronage, happy producers and daily phone calls from new potential suppliers. Above all we seem to have maintained that magic vibe, a combination of good product, people and atmosphere which brings people back time and again.

WHEN: Last Saturday of every month (Christmas season to be confirmed)

Cafe Nitida

Cafe Nitida has developed a reputation as a child friendly venue offering picnics on the grass and light meals on the deck or under an umbrella. On any sunny weekend you can find tiny people crawling around safely, teenagers walking around the ponds or throwing a rugby or cricket ball and parents just chilling. In summer there is frequently a jazz or blues singer in attendance to make the afternoon even more mellow. The big lawn also offers an ideal opportunity for corporate fun days.

Season of Sauvignon
Ostensibly to taste the new sauvignon blanc of the region, this is also a good excuse for a great party on all the Durbanville Farms. Every year offers a different blend of events, from Jazz under the trees, to Rock on the lawn and 4x4 trips across the hills. An annual affair not to be missed.

Next Festival Dates: October 2009

The Dirty Duathlon

This is a fantastic chance for the whole family to enjoy a duathlon together and to experience the unique opportunity of running and cycling through the wine farms in Durbanville.

Hosted by Nitida Cellars in conjunction with the event co-ordinators, proceeds for the benefit of preserving the remaining endangered renosterveld and its dependent species. This event has run very successfully for since 2007 and we look forward to the numbers growing every year. Despite heavy winter rains we have been lucky both years int he fantastic warm weather which belied the the sopping wet csoil onditions which left many contestants covered in the beautiful Durbanville mud.

Starting and ending on Nitida, athletes can choose to meet the challenge of the 5km vineyard run, 21km Cycle (very hilly with absolutely spectacular views and the incredible opportunity to cycle amongst the game of Clara Anna Fontein) and finished with a repeat 5km run. Or you can choose from one of the shorter and easier races.

Next “Big Dirty “ Dates: TBC August 2009

Champagne Festival in Franschhoek

For the last 2 years our Nitida Shiraz Cap Classique has proved to be a show stopper as the only red champagne on show. The growing demand for this “cult wine” is making us reconsider our small volumes - we sold out of our entire production in just 5 months in 2007 and even with increased production levels, are battling to keep up with demand in 2008.
